1.5
Litre Stock
Class letter T Max. Length 13' 6" Minimum Wt. 750 lbs.
Popular, small and economical 1.5 Litre Stock hydroplanes can hit 95
mph. They are powered by 4-cylinder 1200-1500 cc Toyota engines and use
ordinary pump gas.
1 Litre Modified
Class letter Y Max. Length 13'6" Minimum Wt. 750 lbs.
Get creative! Anything goes on these highly modified 4-cylinder speed
demons. Powered by pump gas or methanol to a top speed of 105 mph, the
1 Litre Modified offers great racing excitement.
2.5 Litre Stock
Class letter S Max. Length 13'6" Minimum Wt. 975 lbs.
The affordable 2.5 Litre Stock Class hydro can exceed 100 mph. Powered
by 4-cylinder Ford Engines (2000cc or 2.3 litre) on pump gas, the 2.5
Litre affords very exciting side-by-side racing at an affordable cost.
2.5 Litre Modified
Class letter A Max. Length 16' Minimum Wt. 1325 lbs.
The 2.5 Litre Modified racer can hit speeds of over 125 mph-creatively.
A few restrictions apply (for example engines must not exceed 166ci) However,
these hydroplanes can use pump gas, methanol or aviation fuel, and engine
alterations are limited only by the racers imagination. If you love exotic
engines and extreme power, the 2.5 Litre Modified may be for you.
5 Litre
Class letter E Max. Length 16' Minimum Wt. 1450 lbs.
Ford, Plymouth and Chevrolet stock V-8 engines power the 5 Litre Stock
Hydroplanes to speeds of 115 mph. Offering racing excitement on a budget,
the 5 Litres allow drivers to show off their racing skills at many race
sites across the US.
National Modified
Class letter NM Max. Length 19' Minimum Wt. 1600 lbs.
Not a class for the timid, the National Modified hydroplane offers speeds
of 140 mph to the serious competitor. Many engine combinations are possible-from
4-cylinder to 350ci V-8's. The racer's ingenuity and driving skill can
give him the edge in this highly competitive class.
Jersey Speed Skiff
Class letter: JS Min. Length – 16 ‘ Min. Wt – 1600
withut driver and rider
Skiffs were originally used for rum-running during Prohibition. The
Jersey Speed Skiffs use a small block Chevy to propel the 16’ lapstrake
runabouts in tight, close racing. The driver and riding mechanic must
be prepared to take some jolts as the skiffs bounce across the water at
80 MPH
