What is the Chamber?
The mission of the Port Deposit Chamber of Commerce is to promote economic opportunity through business and community leadership and to enhance the social and civic environment of Port Deposit and surrounds. The Port Deposit Chamber of Commerce is a business organization of approximately 30 members representing several hundred employees. The Chamber works with town officials, local businesses and the community at large to promote the local economy.
Within that mission statement, there are several elements, but first and foremost, we serve as the voice of business in Port Deposit . We are a membership organization that believes in the importance of creating a sense of community among local businesses. Our members are from every industry, large and small, old and new, from home based business just starting out, to very large businesses with hundreds of employees.
To accomplish it's mission, the Chamber relies on the efforts of our members, our Board of Directors , the Town Council, volunteers, and the generosity of companies who sponsor our events.
We are currently a relatively small organization, but the Town of Port Deposit is growing fast. Easy access to the primary North/South interstate highway, I95, and a rail station (approximately 5 miles away) services the Washington DC to New York Amtrac line. This station also services the MARC commuter system running from Perryville through Baltimore to the Thurgood Marshall Baltimore International Airport (BWI), Hunt Valley and South to Washington DC. and Dulles International Airport. The MARC system also connects to many cities in Virginia.
The development of the Bainbridge Naval Training Center (Now defunct, but if you want history contact the webmaster) provides for new industrial and residential developments some of which are currently in progress, which will inevitably bring more people to the town, and new members to the Chamber of Commerce.
